Down Down Down

We keep going down,
down down down,
like Jonah
and his whale.
But it is time
to come up.
It is time
to take a breath.
It is time for this life
to vomit up
our answers.

Do I Love

I have started writing poetry during the sermon on Sundays.  Here is one of the pieces from yesterday, when Raigan was wrapping up the series we did on 5 Practices of a Fruitful Congregation:

Do I Love

For God
so loved
the world
that He gave.

He gave.

Do I
so love
this world
that I

Do I give
to anyone
besides myself?

Do I give
to my husband
who gives so very much
of himself
that he often finds
he is emptied?

Do I give
to my children,
pouring love
into their hearts?

Do I love
the strangers
on the street
and in the store
and all around

Do I love them enough
to give
and give
and give

until it hurts
the way it must have hurt
when God gave
His son -
His only son -
to us?

Friday Felicities - 9/3/10

Ah, Friday.  Time to list things from the week that made us happy.  Time to remember Natalie and how she always found things to be grateful for, even in the worst of situations.

A mostly unpacked craft room
Haydn reading to me from an article about Russia and Poland
David drawing a picture for Uncle Greg this morning, because he misses him
David writing a song at the breakfast table
Morning devotions with my sons
Olivia sleeping on me at Em's wedding
Ribbons around flower girl feet
Feeling like myself again
